Why Use an App Store QR Code Generator
Promoting
An App Store QR code generator helps eliminate extra steps, allowing users to scan a single QR code the automatically directs them to the correct app store based on their device. Instead of using a landing page with separate links for iOS and Android, you can generate a dynamic QR code that instantly opens the right store.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to create a QR code for app downloads using URLgenius in just a few simple steps.
URLgenius: The Best QR Code Generator for App Store and Google Play

QR codes for app downloads with app links help you remove extra steps in the consumer journey by skipping over landing pages and taking your visitors directly to the iOS or Google Play App Store. This can be incredibly effective in cases where the consumer does not need any additional information about the app before visiting the store to install it.
Plus, the URLgenius QR code generator for the App Store and Google Play creates dynamic codes, which means you can change the destination of the code even after it's printed. You can even set the code to open the app to a certain screen when it's already installed and you can change those settings any time in the settings on the tab called 'Routing'.
Pro Tip: You can track how many app downloads your QR code is generating if you have the right tags on your app store links. See this related blog post for more information.
Important Google Note: Is your app using Firebase Dynamic Links? On August 25, 2025, Google is shutting down Firebase Dynamic Links which is part of the Firebase platform offering app deep linking capabilities. Google is no longer recommending Firebase Dynamic Links for new mobile app development projects. If you're using that technology for your linking or QR codes make sure to consider a replacement like URLgenius.

Step-by-Step: How to Use the URLgenius App Store QR Code Generator
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to create a QR code for app downloads from all app stores. In this example, we'll use the Kohl's shopping app. Consider your default URL which you can update in the settings in case someone shares the link behind your single QR code for Android and iPhone, and it's clicked with a desktop computer. Kohl's has a landing page in place, which includes links to both app stores:
- To begin, copy the link to your app on the Apple App Store or Google Play
- Paste the App Store or Google Play link into the composer box on the URLgenius home page.
- In the screenshot below, we are creating a URLgenius app store link to the Kohl's app for iOS and Android. Make sure to enter both app store links in the fields provided.
- If you want the app to open when it's already installed, check the box 'Grow my app engagement' (but you must know the app URL scheme to open the app and enter it in the field provided. You can do that later if you don't know what it is)
- If you only have one app on one platform, paste the fallback URL in the other field. You can always edit routing for the link at a later date
- Now click the “Compose” button and you'll be taken to the settings page where you and customize your QR code and download it
- Just click the tab called 'QR Design Studio'
